Just ran across this article in the Orlando Sentinel, and it makes me wonder if the recreational vehicles mentioned will be scooters. From a financial perspective, large gas-guzzling vehicles like campers would be, well, dumb. However, while RVs typically refer to the large beasts, scooters and ATVs also qualify as vehicles used for recreation. |

More moped madness!! (alliteration, how I love thee...ANYways.) Wired Magazine is bringing attention to the dirty underbelly of vintage scooters-the moped. Orlando actually has their very own moped gang, the Sharks. I'm not really sure how you get a hold of them, I just know they exist. If you want some more up to date info, check out MopedArmy.com or come on down to a scooter night on Wednesdays to talk shop with some of the local riders. Make sure you check out the video under number 6-apparently someone has some scooter/moped issues. |

Benchmark Helmets, the same folks that brought us MOMO and Laura Smith Helmets, are also the US distributors for Armadillo Scooter Wear. I've written before about Armadillo-they're an excellent combination of style and cutting edge armor tech. Both the men's and women's jacket/coat ranges are available online via The Scooter Shop. Prices range from $190-329, but the items are functional enough for everyday use. It'd be nice to see some local vendors carrying the products, in addition to other scooter specific wear, like Corazzo. |

There's some good news and some bad news when it comes to our local Cannonball riders. Kieran of TTS (k-dog) is still holding strong in the Manual 200 Class, taking his Lambretta Riverside LI up against a Vespa P200. It looks like Jim Tillman, however went down in a bad accident when he was only 2 days out. More info courtesy of Karen Ranes: This is an email reply to the call I made to Jims house... Hi Karen & John, Thanks for your phone calls regarding Jim and his Cannonball accident. He got a ride with a woman from Tulsa, Oklahoma whose husband is riding in the Cannonball. We have friends in Tulsa who were to get Jim to the airport tomorrow morning, Wednesday 9/17, to come home. However, our daughter who is a nurse and our friend's daughter who is a nurse decided to check his lungs before he flew. Long story short, he has 7 broken ribs, a broken collarbone, and a collapsed lung. He is in the hospital in Tulsa and was intubated earlier this evening to inflate the lung. He's supposed to be hospitalized for two days if all goes well. He can't fly for two weeks so I'm flying there Thursday to drive him home. He just wants to get home Once I regained my wits tonight it was too late to call you so I'm getting into Jim's email. Thanks again for your concern. He'll be in touch once he gets home. He hasn't been talking much so you know he's not feeling well. I don't know the particulars of the accident, haven't asked. There'll be plenty of time to sort it all out once he's well. I don't know how long we'll be away. We're just going to take one step at a time and get home ASAP. Celeste Tillman Please send out your happy, healing thoughts to Jim and his family.
